The collected manuscripts and photographs comprise the majority of the materials.  Abstract:  William Ganson Rose (1878-1957) was a noted Cleveland, Ohio, author, historian, lecturer, advertising executive, and civic promoter. In 1915, Rose formed Wm. G. Rose, Inc., his own advertising and public relations firm. He managed numerous fairs and expositions, including the first Cleveland Electrical Exposition (1914), the Gordon Bennett International Balloon Race and Aerial Carnival (1930), the Great Lakes Exposition (1936-1937), and the Cleveland Sesquicentennial (1946). In 1916-1917, Rose chaired the group which promoted and ultimately secured passage of a bond issue financing the construction of the Cleveland Public Auditorium. He served on the board of Hiram House, a Cleveland social settlement founded by George Bellamy in 1896, and belonged to the American Press Humorists and the Cleveland Athletic Club. Rose authored several books and numerous articles for newspapers and magazines, as well as a comprehensive history of Cleveland entitled Cleveland, the making of a city, published in 1950. Rose died in 1957. The collection consists of newspaper clippings, promotional material, correspondence, biographical material, photographs, reports, and historical material pertaining to the history of Cleveland, Ohio and many of its prominent citizens, but also including material on national and international events and personages. Individuals, organizations and events that figure most prominently include: the American Press Humorists, Newton D. Baker, George Bellamy and Hiram House, Charles F. Brush, the Cleveland Sesquicentennial of 1946, the visit to Cleveland of Emile Coue, Thomas A. Edison, the Gordon Bennett International Balloon Race and Aerial Carnival of 1930, Abraham Lincoln, the Cleveland Public Auditorium, John D. Rockefeller, the Cleveland War Service Center, the Cleveland Grays, and the writings of Whiting Williams. Also included is a significant amount of biographical material on numerous women in Cleveland's history, material pertaining to sports, particularly baseball, and material relating to the theater in Cleveland, with newspaper reviews of performances.

The collection consists of real estate transfer records (1800-1885) for Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and material relating to boardinghouses, bridges, buildings, canals, cemeteries, churches, civic and social institutions, dwellings, educational institutions, hospitals, hotels, military sites, manufacturing and commercial agents, public buildings, railroads, restaurants and saloons, roads, streets, theaters, and halls.

 Abstract:  The Ford family were prominent lawyers, philanthropists, and businessmen of Cleveland, Ohio, during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The collection consists of genealogies, biographical sketches, correspondence, diaries, journals, account books, appointment books, ledgers, stock certificates, minutes, leases, articles of incorporation, wills, deeds, corporate inventories, maps, newspaper and magazine clippings, tax assessments and returns, diplomas, certificates, military orders, and discharge papers. Material is included on several banking institutions, including Garfield Savings Bank, The Western Reserve Trust Company, Metropolitan National Savings Bank, and the East End Savings and Trust Company. Material on Ford family involvement in the construction and management of the Williamson Building is included, as is family involvement in other real estate enterprises, including The New Amsterdam Company, One Euclid Company, and the Ford McCaslin Company. Involvement in various legal firms by H. Clark, Horatio, and David K. Ford is well documented, as is David K. Ford's role in the organization and operation of the Lubrizol Corporation and Lubrizol Foundation. Family involvement with the Euclid Avenue Congregational Church, and with other philanthropic and social service organizations, such as the American Red Cross, the Maternal Health Association, University Hospitals, and the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University, is documented. Family members were also involved with the Congregational City Missionary Society, the Congregational Home Missionary Society, the Schauffler Missionary Training School (later Schauffler College of Religious and Social Work), and the National Council of the Congregational Churches of the United States. David K. Ford's involvement with Defiance College is documented. David and Elizabeth Brooks Ford's commitment to community service and social reform is well documented in this collection, including correspondence with others sharing their interests, such as Ralph Hayes of the City Club, Dorothy Adams Hamilton Brush with the Maternal Health Association, Agnes Brooks Young with the Cleveland Playhouse, and Katherine Gill Brooks of the Visiting Nurse Association. Of particular interest is the correspondence of H. Clark Ford with the notorious swindler Cassie Chadwick. The majority of the genealogical and family history materials included is the work of Oliver Kingsley Brooks.
